The Synthetic Folk Web Ring

How to make your page load faster

It is important that your control panel contains the Synthetic Folk Logo, because this is what users will be looking for when they jump to your site from another member's. The HTMLfragment you'll be pasting into your page currently accesses this logo from the Mike & the Alchemist site, and this will undoubtedly make your page load a lot more slowly than it needs to.

To speed things up, you should download a copy of the logo to your own site, and change the HTML code accordingly. This is what you have to do, in detail.

1. Copy the picture

Unless you've specifically told your browser not to display images, you have already downloaded the picture you need without realising it! The official logo is shown on the left below, but we appreciate that this may be a bit too synthetic for some sites. Richard Blair at ISIS has very kindly prepared a second logo that may be more appropriate in some circumstances (despite appearances, they have actually been drawn the same size on the page).

Using your mouse, right-click on the logo of your choice and then choose "Save picture as...". Use the default name synfolk.jpg because that's the name that the HTML code is expecting, and save the file into the same directory that contains the file with the HTML code for the control panel itself.

2. Change the HTMLfragment

You have to make only one change. Where it currently says

src=http://freespace.virgin.net/mike.stannett/webring/synfolk.jpg

change it to say

src=synfolk.jpg

This will tell your visitor's browser to use the picture stored with your page, rather than opening a new web connection and downloading the picture very slowly from the Mike & the Alchemist site.
